I thought the concept was cool, but never thought I’d actually see something like that before my eyes. But then there it was.
A friend and I were walking back from a gig together and stumbled upon the Beauty Bar located at 231 14th Street in Manhattan. When you look at the venue from the outside, you would never believe the greatness you will find inside because it looks like an old vintage place and guess what; it is exactly that and so much more.
I think I am so impressed. On one side of the room is a bar shelved with bottles from all shelf tiers. On the other side of the room are seats which one will visualize as the old hair dryer seats from back in the days. And in the middle of the room, a nail technician with her table set up ready to do your nails.
How cool is that? The room around you is filled with a plethora of people chatting and dancing while you are getting your $10 manicure and a free martini.
Stacey said, “Nail Bar has been open for 17 years now.” She said, “it was a beauty parlor for 40 years owned by a woman named Florence. She came up with the concept and the idea stuck."
The company services people from all over town and also out of town. People from Europe make up a nice percentage of the Beauty Bar’s guests.
Besides the location located on 14th Street in Manhattan, there are 11 other locations including one inVegas, and also one on Fifth Avenue in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.
Beauty Bar is open seven days a week. The venue opens at 5PM from Monday through Saturday and at 7PM on Sundays. Happy hour is from 5 to 9 PM on Monday through Saturday which includes a selection of draft beers for $2 and well drinks for $4. And when you are there, see one of the comedy shows. They have comedy five nights a week and djs spinning Friday and Saturday nights when patrons who want to dance come in.
The room has great lighting. The staff is friendly and the service is pretty good. Beauty Bar is a great place for a party; especially a bridal shower or bachelorette party. There is a room in the back that holds about 175 people for private parties.Though food is not served at this venue, it seems like a cool spot for friends to go together to all get manicures and a martini. I mean, what girl doesn't like getting pampered every now and then?
I’m still impressed about having a martini while getting my nails done. If you are expecting to come in and get a gel manicure or tips for $10, you might want to go somewhere else though. The nail technician, Stacey, only does natural nails. No acrylic or gel. I think the idea is amazing. A Martini and a manicure. I love it!
